Hawthorne bike lane

After reading the BikePortland October 13 article I remain in agreement with the city’s actions to improve near by and parallel bike lanes. As much as I appreciate the passion around pushing for bike lanes on Hawthorne I do not consider it a fight worth putting effort into. The network of nearby streets makes much more sense and are easier to control traffic and speed on.

Amen. The problem with bike activism in Portland is that it it’s often shrill, toxic, and loaded with unrealistic pie-in-the-sky demands. We’re fine without those lanes and the neighborhood clearly didn’t want them either. Flogging a dead horse just turns more people against alternative transportation modes. You won’t hear these opinions in the curated echo chamber that Jonathan runs, though.
